been waiting for this all day. I go for very long walks and your long podcasts have been a big help. with cinemaslave on break this week, with movie blog only doing mail bags, with filmspotting not up till tomorrow, i needed you guys YESTERDAY
anyways i’m assuming to hear some things about transformers from Kurt that i’ll probably agree with based on some of his comments on other boards. man, that was one of the worst movies i’ve ever seen in my life. i’m amazed at the free pass people are giving this piece of shit.
I loved both Transformers and Die Hard. Both were just as expected for me… Check out my review at Cold Leftovers, if you like…
I always love listening to a new Movie Patron Cinecast and this episode was just great (as always).
One thing that stood out to me during your review of Die Hard 4.0 on the show (in particular Kurt) and something you said:
You pointed out that they used the least amount of CGI possible when I found the total opposite. The thing that bothered me about this film was that they used FAR TOO MUCH CGI. It was actually distracting, they totally went overboard with it. Sorry….I just thought it was funny that on that point in your talk about it was as if we were watching a different movie from one another
Kurt’s “Transformers” bit is right on the ball but at the same time, I have to say I’m with Andrew…when I was watching it I had a great time. I doubt I’ll see it a second time on the big screen but I can nearly guarantee that this will make its way into the house and if hubby pops it in, I’ll probably sit, watch and enjoy all over again.
You raise a good point on the music. One of the reasons why I actually enjoyed the Transformers even though it is a severely flawed film in many ways has to do with the scenes where they first show the autobots.
To me there felt like a sense of wonder when they first appeared as a group. It made the movie worthwhile over all. I probably did get a bit caught up in the music but it was just one of those magical movie moments.
The bad consisted of the whole Megan Fox and her friend thing. That was totally pointless. In the majority of the fights it was hard to really see what was going on. I like your idea of panning back to give an entire street view from the sky.
I can accept the humour level for what it was because of the fact that it really did feel like it was made for 14-17 year old boys. So while I was slightly amused at times it wasn’t really that funny.
Oh and as for the woman in the street screaming. For me that scene just felt way out of place. Was it a good scene yeah, but it just didn’t fit in with Bay’s style or the rest of the fights. It was almost like watching a different movie for just a bit.
So far though out of Spiderman, Pirates, and Transformers I most enjoyed transformers.
On the topic of cinecast length. I agree with most of the other comments that you so far haven’t gone overboard with length. When you have stuff to say you say it. The tangents are always movie related which is cool and they actually add to it. Would I want 2 or 3 two hour podcasts by you guys each week, nope. I wouldn’t have time but as it is even when its over an hour it gives me something good to listen to on my walk to work and back.
Thanks for the thanks btw. I enjoy writing stuff up for the blog.
I hated any of the scenes where the autobots are “hanging out” together. The scene where they are trying to hide outside Sam’s house was stupid and the scene where they introduced themselves pissed me off too. Pretty much any scene where they are standing around talking was annoying.
I GET the fact that they were aiming to keep the younger kids laughing, but I don’t care… to me it was stupid.
I couldn’t get a word in edge wise what with Kurt’s anger, but it was well worth it and he pretty much covered everything. It was a very “Kermod-ian” like rant - priceless.
I wish I could say I even had a great time watching it before realizing it was bad. I was just BOOOOOOOOOOOOOREEED for 2 and a half hours. I almost walked out. Reviewing it I couldnt even give it the token points for visuals that so many do - when you have what Transformers has, and you HIDE it through bad camera work and editing, you DESERVE to have those token points removed.
